The Origin of Head Spa
Head spa treatments originated in Japan, where scalp health is viewed as an essential part of beauty, wellness, and preventative care. Much like facials for the skin, head spa services were designed to detoxify the scalp, stimulate circulation, and create an optimal environment for healthy hair growth.
Over time, head spas have evolved into a luxury wellness routine, combing proven results with relaxation techniques that help reduce tension and stress.
Why Headspa?
A head spa is a deeply relaxing, scalp-focused treatment designed to cleanse, nourish, and rebalance the scalp while promoting overall hair and scalp health. Think of a headspa just like getting a massage-same type of setting but instead this service is only focused on the scalp.
The reason I added headspa in my salon was not solely just to have a relaxing service. I wanted to offer a service that has purpose behind it. When the scalp is stimulated, that stimulation encourages blood flow to the scalp, which then helps prolong the anagen (growth cycle). As we age, the anagen cycle gets shorter, so we always want to be enouraging growth!
Scalp health matters because it directly impacts how hair grows, feels, and behaves. When the scalp is congested, inflamed, or unbalanced, it can affect hair quality over time. Regular scalp care helps maintain a healthy environment for the hair, supporting stronger, shiner, more resilient growth while promoting overall relaxation and wellness.
What To Expect And Who It's For
Each service is customized to your scalp and hair needs and includes a scalp analysis, deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, warm water therapy, massage to the scalp, and steam to enhance hydration and treatment absorbtion.
Head spa services are ideal for those experiencing scalp imbalance, buildup, dryness, excess oil, dull hair, hair loss, or just simply to relax. They are also ideal for anyone seeking preventative scalp care, improved hair health, or simply a slow down and reset.
This service includes a light blowdry if desired, but heavy styling is not recommended for at least 48 hours post service since the scalp has been deeply cleansed and stimulated. No headspa services 2 weeks prior to color or 2 weeks after.
The products used are designed for scalp stimulation. It's normal to feel tingling and to see some redness as this manipulation will bring blood flow to the scalp!
